Where do the proceeds from the event go?

The Mike Palahnuk Pavilion Project

All proceeds for this event will go directly to the Mike Palahnuk Pavilion Project.

The SJCC has launched a fundraising campaign to raise money to build a new pavilion for summer camp and to name the building in memory of Mike Palahnuk, the JCC’s longtime facilities director, who passed away in 2024 after a battle with cancer.

“Mike was more than just an amazing facilities director. He was an important part of our Schenectady JCC community. He was engaged with our kids and our members. He brought a smile to everyone’s face,” said SJCC Campus Director Andy Katz. “He is missed around here every day. I’m so pleased that his family is working with us to honor Mike’s memory in this way. Mike loved our summer campers and I know he would have loved this project.”

The new pavilion will be a central meeting place for SJCC summer campers, one of the largest day camps in Schenectady County. The project has been selected to be a part of a day camp matching grant program through JCamp180, a Harold Grinspoon Foundation initiative to inspire camps across the country to fund needed physical improvements on campus. The Foundation will fund up to $25,000 if the JCC is able to receive a total local match of $50,000 for donations received between June 1, 2024 and April 30, 2025.
